There is no better place to begin with Stoicism than a look at the overall Marcus Aurelius philosophy of Stoicism and the impact that the Stoic emperor had, with his teachings still just as relevant 2000 years on. In his famous work ‘Meditations’, Marcus Aurelius wrote down a number of musing to himself on the things that he had learnt through life including the art of remaining content and living a simple life, on the universe and the cosmos, on the development of character and being brave enough to tolerate condemnation. He aimed to refine his own virtues and in the process, that of other people who have been fortunate enough to peer inside the mind of one of the greatest leaders to have ever lived.
