Description
1961 Lotus Elite Coupe, Chassis 1176, Engine 4665
Original but refreshed with recent KTR service of brakes, cooling, and with new tyres.
A very well preserved 1961 Lotus Elite, Type 14, finished in British Racing Green over a Tan interior. 4 speed, Coventry Climax engine, Stage 1 tune with twin SU carburetors. Lotus produced the Elite from 1957 to 1963, only 1,076 examples (more exclusive than the Aston DB5), The Elite featured the world’s first monocoque shell, made of fiberglass. Colin Chapman’s goal was a super lightweight, and aerodynamic car— and the Lotus Elite illustrates the concept of monocoque as a French term for “single shell”, a paradigm shift from body on chassis.
This Elite is in original condition, after being parked in a British car museum for many years. Showing a bit of “patina”, the green paint holds up very nicely. The complete interior is very original, and comes with side windows.
Recent service work at a noted race shop includes thorough and complete check of all systems: Brakes. Chassis. Lights. Engine. Transmission. New Wire Wheels & Tires. All fluids serviced: Clutch, Brake, Engine Oil & Filter, Coolant, Transmission lubricant. Chassis components greased. At the same time the carbs were completely gone through, as well as the Distributor. Cam Covers were removed, and valves were checked for valve lash
This is a chance to own one of the most beautiful, desirable, AND drivable Lotus models ever made.
