ClartyBurd is a brand-new female-run theatre company, from the burds that brought you Bawsoot Theatre. Following Bawsoot’s “almost genius” 5 star (All Edinburgh Theatre) production, The Raven, the burds are back and more clarty than ever.
This August 2018, ClartyBurd bring the new writing piece Moonlight on Leith, set to premier at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Due to a last minute drop out, we are looking to cast two more actors, one male & one female (no age restriction).
Moonlight on Leith:
Inspired by Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood, Moonlight on Leith is a loving tribute to the cobble covered streets from the Shore to the Walk. Slip on the shoes of the nocturnal residents of Leith in this comic insight into the lives of the characters that make Leith, Leith.
This piece will involve multi-roles, character based acting and a good amount of playfulness. The text is part prose, part poetry and it will require actors with the ability to create distinct voices and physicality for each character. This is an excellent opportunity for an actor to showcase their skills and we encourage active collaboration and contribution in the rehearsal room.
As an unfunded and emerging theatre company we cannot offer payment for any of the roles, so these are unpaid opportunities for actors looking for exposure and a chance to create something new and exciting. As a company we actively encourage creativity and contribution in the rehearsal room and hope for your voices to shine through the eventual productions that are formed. We will offer every participant a 10% share in the profits, after costs are recouped. We can offer some flexibility on rehearsals as we understand that participants will have some financial commitments, and this will be discussed at audition. The rehearsal period will begin on week commencing June 25th and will likely be 2 rehearsals a week until premier on 4th August. Indicative performance dates are Moonlight on Leith 4th-25th August (not Tuesdays) at 8pm on the Cowgate.
Auditions will be held within Edinburgh, please contact us to arrange a suitable time and location. Please attend with a prepared Biography and a full diary of your availability for rehearsal. We will provide extracts prior to audition, but please feel free to bring along anything you want to show us. For Moonlight On Leith it is important that we cast an ensemble that can co-create with each other, so we may ask you to attend a group session after your initial audition.
