Singer (Male or Female) NEEDED To Team Up With To Form Electronic / Indie Act

Description

Type : Jobs
Condition : Part time
Warranty : No
Location : Camden Town, London, UK

I’m trying to find a vocalist (male or female) to partner up with. I have done a number of one off tracks ‘featuring’ guest singers, but now I’m really keen to find a longterm partner, the idea being to form a live act and perform regularly on the club and festival circuit.

I’ve had lots of DJ’ing experience (playing mostly ‘underground’ dance stuff along the same lines as The Sonar Music Festival). Over the last few years I’ve spent my time and energy working on the creative and technical challenges of music production.

I have a number of instrumental tracks written, some with full vocals, literally loads of rough sketches / song starting idea’s, and lots of finished tracks that could easily be adapted, changed around etc. I’m happy to collaborate in any way that works, whether that’s working on new material from scratch, working on something you may have already on the go – anyway that get’s good results I’m up for!

The styles and inspirations I draw from is a mixture of Disco, Techno, House, Funk, Folk, Indie and Rock, with loads of 80’s influences, as well as Film / Game Scores. So I’m really looking for someone who has a wide range of musical tastes. I’m more of a ‘make a different type of track each time’ producer, rather then the ‘make the same track over’ type. That said, I think when starting out it can help to be focused on a particular sound / style, so I’m open to deciding on a certain path and sticking to it.

I’ve been getting quite a lot of replies from people who are very keen to sing but aren’t really passionate about dance music / underground club culture, or at least are not familiar with it. There’s no point in setting out on a project of this kind if you don’t have shared goals and a deep love for the music you are trying to create. Just wanting to be a singer will not carry you / us – the distance… As I come from a club DJ’ing background I tend to make mostly deep house / techno / and disco stuff (that would be at home on labels like Crosstown Rebels, Kompakt, Hot Creations etc) – so if you’re not familiar with websites such as Resident Advisor then I might not be the best option for you – pop quiz: do you know Maya Jane Coles… no? well I think its unlikely I’m you’re guy!

Here’s a few examples of the kind of music I listen to: Fur Coat, Duran Duran, Trent Moller, Trent Reznor, Todd Terje, The Beatles, Cliff Martinez, The Pajama Club, Queen, Solomun, The Meters, Daypak And Padberg, Simon & Garfunkel, Nile Rodgers, Solar Fields, JJ Cale, Martinez Brothers, The Kills, Earth Wind & Fire, Menomena, Tom Salta, Pink Floyd, Matthew Dear, James Brown, Maceo Plex, Prince, Jungle, Morgan Geist, Blondie… blah blah blah!

A good example of the Electronic / Indie fusion I’m geared towards is the Beats In Space Radio Show, and DFA Records, both out of New York. Infact the last thing I went out to was James Murphy’s and Too Many DJ’s Despacio night. Hopefully by now I have given you enough to go on, and also to understand, when I say Electronic music – I don’t mean EDM.

I can send you a Soundcloud link with some of my music. If you’re interested the only thing I ask is Please only reply if you have examples of you’re singing online, can commit to weekly rehearsals / weekends away, and are not tied down by a ‘proper’ job blah blah blah!

If you’ve got this far, it’s probably fair to say you don’t have attention deficit disorder, which is a good thing, as making good music is no easy task! thanks for reading 🙂
