The Mondial was introduced by Ferrari as a mid-engined, V8-powered grand tourer and was available as a coupe or convertible. Produced between 1980 and 1993 it replaced the Ferrari 308 GT4 coupé. The word Mondial was taken from the 50’s racing Ferraris. Even today it is a genuine long-distance four-seater car, with sufficient rear head- and leg-room for children and smaller adults. Unusually for a mid-engined car it has surprisingly good all-round visibility.

Our car, which we imported ourselves from Canada, has covered just 46400 miles, and the previous owner informed us that the car won concours awards in 2010 and 2013. It is in very good condition all round and starts, stops, drives and handles exactly as it should. There is a stamped service book to confirm the mileage.

The Mondial 8 has the 3.0 litre V8 engine producing 214bhp and 179lb ft. The engine is fuel injected and drives through the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox. Starting is instantaneous and gives a lovely growl at low revs, turning into an exhilarating howl at the higher end of the rev range. Its just asks to be driven hard. The gear selection is in an H-pattern grid on the gear selector and moves precisely through its ratios.

The car is a 2+2 and the close fitting sports seats are finished in red leather. This is carried through in the cabin, and the seating position is a reminder of Ferrari’s racing heritage. Unusually for a Ferrari, this car is finished in metallic grey paintwork, with matching Ferrari grey alloy wheels. The wheels are shod with the correct Michelin TRX tyres which are in almost new condition. The car in our showroom has attracted admiring glances and comments for its understated colour combination.

This car was supplied new into North America, and was recently imported by ourselves. The recorded mileage is very low on this car, being only 46,400. This mileage is confirmed by the stamped service book, giving the car full service history. The car was stored unused for some years in suitable dry-storage, which helps to explain its lovely condition today.
