Volunteers required Home-Visting Family Support

Description

Type : Jobs
Condition : Part time
Warranty : No
Location : Kirkcaldy, Fife, UK

We are looking for people with parenting experience to spend 2-3 hours per week supporting a family with young children.

Home-Start Kirkcaldy offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with young children in Kirkcaldy, Kinghorn, Burntisland and Cardenden. Since 1994, we have offered a unique service for families – recruiting and training volunteers to support parents with young children at home. We help families deal with whatever life throws at them, supporting parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children. Examples of things that volunteers have helped with include helping with shopping, organising/getting to appointments, getting out and about in the community, playing/reading with children.

Before being matched to a family, all our volunteers must attend a preparation course. This course runs one day a week for five weeks between 10am and 2.30pm and lunch is provided. Topics included on the preparation course include –

The role of the Home-Start volunteer

How families are referred to Home-Start

“Good Enough” parenting

Values and attitudes

The role of the Health Visitor

Child Protection

Play

Confidentiality

Commitment, boundaries and support

The preparation course is very informal and gives volunteers the opportunity to find out more about the project and what their role will be. The Co-ordinators run the preparation course although we do invite outside speakers to a couple of sessions.

All travel & out of pocket expenses are paid.
